ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN PROMOTES INTEGRATED ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE, GENDER AND NUTRITION IN KANO STATE, NIGERIA

The Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, a GCAN partner in Kano State, Nigeria, convened an Advocacy and Awareness Campaign at ADUSTECH, Wudil on June 6, 2026, bringing together 32 representatives from Ajingi, Gaya, and Wudil Local Government Areas, alongside government officials, academia, civil society organizations, women and youth groups, and community leaders.

The campaign strengthened stakeholders' understanding of the interconnected challenges of climate change, gender inequality, and malnutrition, while fostering dialogue on more effective policy implementation. Participants identified key issues affecting their communities, including rising malnutrition, climate-related livelihood pressures, deforestation driven by fuelwood dependence, and gaps in implementing existing policies such as the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Policy.

The event also highlighted community-led solutions, including the use of alternative cooking fuels, nutrition awareness initiatives, and gender-responsive interventions that have improved girls' access to education. Participants called for stronger implementation of existing policies, increased investment in climate adaptation, nutrition, and renewable energy, greater participation of women and youth in decision-making, and sustained multi-stakeholder engagement to build more resilient and inclusive communities.
