Since 2016, the Gender, Climate Change, and Nutrition Integration Initiative (GCAN) has been working to integrate gender, climate resilience, and nutrition considerations into policy, interventions, and research.
GCAN is implemented by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and supported by the Gates Foundation.
In line with the GCAN framework, the initiative operates through three key workstreams:
- Under Workstream 1, the GCAN team works with in-country partners to build capacities for better integration of gender and nutrition objectives in national climate policies and actions.
- Under Workstream 2, technical assistance and advisory services are provided to ensure the full integration of gender, climate change, and nutrition in project activities and objectives.
- Workstream 3 focuses on enhancing the evidence base to support gender-responsive and nutrition-sensitive climate actions and investments. The GCAN research agenda aims to be locally driven with guidance from the International Advisory Committee.
GCAN’s interdisciplinary team works together to maximize synergies across gender equality, climate resilience/mitigation, and nutrition goals while minimizing trade-offs among these priorities.
